Abstract generation in progress

Shayne Coplan, the 27-year-old founder and CEO of Polymarket, has just become the youngest self-made billionaire in the world, according to Bloomberg. This success comes after Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) – the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange – invested a maximum of 2 billion USD into Polymarket with a valuation of 8 billion USD.

Launched in 2020, Polymarket allows users to bet with cryptocurrency on real-world events such as elections or sports. The platform gained attention when the trading volume for the 2024 US election exceeded 3 billion USD.

Despite having been fined by the CFTC and investigated by the FBI, Polymarket had all allegations removed by mid-2025 and acquired QCEX to legalize its operations in the US.

ICE's investment marks a turning point, helping Polymarket become a bridge between traditional finance and DeFi, ushering in a new era for the decentralized prediction market.
