Despite Musk's exit, the software reforms led by DOGE will accelerate layoffs in the United States.
On May 8, Jin10 reported that two informed sources indicated that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is preparing to launch software to accelerate the pace of layoffs in the U.S. government. The FAA is central to billionaire Elon Musk’s plan to reduce federal employees. The software is an upgraded version of the Pentagon’s AutoRIF program, which has been in existence for decades but has seen little use in recent years. Four anonymous sources stated that under Musk’s Government Efficiency Department (DOGE), software developers at the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) have created a more user-friendly web version in the past few months, which provides layoff targets faster than the currently labor-intensive manual process. The plan will be rolled out by the Office of Personnel Management to various agencies, at a time when Musk is stepping back from DOGE to focus more on Tesla and his other companies.
