Taiko has launched the pre-confirmation mechanism on the Ethereum Mainnet, ushering in a new era of Ethereum scalability.

As the first Based Rollup built on Ethereum’s native mechanism, Taiko has successfully launched the first phase of the pre-confirmation mechanism on the Ethereum Mainnet. This deployment will gradually open to authorized pre-confirmation Allowlist Addresses between August 11 and 13. This milestone significantly enhances the transaction predictability and overall usability of the Based Rollup, propelling Taiko to become a truly viable and decentralized Ethereum scalability solution.

By launching the first phase through pre-confirmation, Taiko has achieved an average transaction confirmation time of about 2 seconds, while maintaining the principle of complete Decentralization. This brings new possibilities for DeFi, GameFi, and enterprise-level applications, eliminating the need to choose between speed and Decentralization.

Break the blockchain trilemma

For a long time, the blockchain industry has been struggling to choose between fast but centralized Rollups and decentralized but slower solutions. However, pre-confirmation technology has completely broken this inherent model of “either speed or decentralization.”

Taiko Labs Chief Operating Officer Joaquin Mendes stated:

“We are very proud to bring the pre-confirmation feature to the Mainnet, once again proving that Based Rollup is the best solution for scaling Ethereum. With the pre-confirmation mechanism, we will see the development of a new generation of dApps and the Ethereum ecosystem no longer relying on centralized means or compromising with them. Now, developers and users no longer have to sacrifice the principle of decentralization to achieve both decentralization and scalability. Decentralization has finally achieved a true combination with security and efficient performance.”

Based Rollup utilizes Ethereum’s own validators, rather than a centralized sequencer, making it the purest form of Ethereum scalability. However, it has been hindered by Ethereum’s 12-second block time in the past. Now, pre-confirmation technology allows transactions to approach instant confirmation for the first time, while preserving the core value of Ethereum’s “minimum trust” mechanism.

Industry collaboration drives innovation

To ensure the smooth operation of the pre-confirmation feature in the network, Taiko has closely collaborated with teams such as Chainbound, Gattaca, and Nethermind to bring “trustless real speed” to Ethereum.

Kubi Mensah, co-founder and CEO of Gattaca, stated:

“I am very pleased to see Based Rollup officially launched on the Taiko Mainnet for the first time. We have conducted extensive testing to ensure that this key innovation can be implemented stably, which not only benefits Taiko users but will also promote the development of the entire Ethereum ecosystem.”

This speed enhancement enables Based Rollup to lead other scaling solutions in addressing the “Blockchain Trilemma.” As a true extension of Ethereum, Taiko retains its security and decentralization advantages, and can now achieve transaction performance comparable to centralized Rollups.

Nethermind founder Tomasz Stańczak stated:

“Through the pre-confirmation mechanism, we can scale Ethereum without violating the core principles of Ethereum. Additionally, we have fully verified its security and are very satisfied with the results of this launch with Taiko.”

For developers, the pre-confirmation mechanism means that they no longer have to relinquish control of their projects for the sake of efficiency, nor do they have to worry about centralized L2 interfering with the ordering process in certain situations.

Chainbound co-founder Francesco Mosterts stated:

“Seeing Ethereum’s scaling development take another important step is very exciting. With the pre-confirmation mechanism, we can achieve a seamless and smooth trading experience without introducing new trust assumptions. This is a key step in aligning Ethereum’s scaling with its original philosophy, providing a better experience for users, developers, and validators.”

Future Outlook

The system architecture of Taiko inherently supports the combination of decentralization and high performance, but its ecosystem is still evolving. This launch marks the first phase of the pre-confirmation functionality, currently involving pre-confirmers participating through permission control. The future second phase will introduce a permissionless and open pre-confirmation mechanism, realizing the complete vision of decentralized scalability.
